Prohibited Product Policy

The following products are prohibited on Fruugo and cannot be sold under any circumstances. Fruugo takes a zero tolerance approach to the sale or advertisement of prohibited products. All Fruugo retailers must not advertise or sell the following products or product categories. If any retailer on Fruugo fails to abide by this policy, disciplinary action may be taken against the retailers account including the immediate termination of the account.

Fruugo reserves the right to amend this policy at any point and reserves sole discretion to make the judgments on whether an individual product listing is appropriate.

Fruugo has a Notice and Take Down procedure in place and Government or Regulatory bodies who have concerns in respect to a particular product are encouraged to notify us via the Third Party Legal Complaints Policy. We also encourage any consumers to use our designated Notice and Takedown procedure in the event they identify any prohibited, or unsafe items on the marketplace. Fruugo also encourages all consumers to also view our designated Recalled Products List for further information on any products subject to a product recall that may have been made available on the platform, and our Consumer Product Safety Tips for information on safe online shopping.   

Definitions -

Prohibited product” refers to products that are banned from being sold or advertised on the Fruugo website. These products may pose a serious risk to consumers or its users. This includes, but is not limited to;

  • Products that violate local and international laws and regulations

  • Any products that are stolen goods

  • Products that have been identified in worldwide Safety Alerts or Safety notifications

  • Products that have been subject to product recalls

  • Any product that poses a safety risk to consumers 

  • Products that violate intellectual property rights (see our Third Party Legal Complaints Policy and Anti-Counterfeit Products Policy).

Retailers” refers to the individual third-party sellers that operate their own shops and are responsible for their own inventory on the Fruugo platform. Retailers are responsible for the accuracy, fulfilment and shipping of all orders.


The following products are strictly prohibited on Fruugo. 

  1. Adult Material  

    1. Pornography 

    2. Adult products including sex toys or fetish products

    3. Unregulated or unconventional condoms (including but not limited to spike, studded or dotted condoms)

    4. Products containing content or media of an explicit nature including clothing, books,  paintings, games, or articles

    5. Products being advertised using images or media of a sexual or explicit nature

    6. Personal enhancement creams or sprays

    7. Products that offer sexual benefits

    8. Any form of content, media, or product that could constitute child sexual abuse material, including but not limited to child-like sex dolls

  1. Animals and Wildlife

    1. Animal or wildlife products which contain endangered or protected items, including animal fur and ivory 

    2. Products made from or  containing real animal fur, including but not limited mink, rabbit or fox fur 

    3. Taxidermy or mounted specimens, including animal bones, skulls, real fur rugs, insect specimens. 

    4. Live animals, including insects and reptiles

    5. Animal eggs

    6. Hunting or animal traps, including snares or any other device that will harm an animal when it is caught 

    7. Glue traps used to capture rodents

    8. Marimo Moss Balls 

    9. Electric shock collars used on any animals, including dogs

    10. Pinch and prong, choke collars, spike collars, or any other type of collar which will harm an animal

    11. Invasive plants, seeds and weeds

    12. Any items made from human remains or parts of the human body (including but not limited to, bones, blood or sperm). Items made from human hair (e.g. wigs) are permitted. 

    13. Unregistered or prohibited pesticides and herbicides 

    14. Products promoting or supporting animal abuse or cruelty, or illegal activity such as the poaching of animals

    15. Cattle prods

    16. Any equipment or device using in the slaughtering process of an animal

    17. Tail docking tools

    18. Veterinary medicines which require a prescription or qualifications to be sold (POM-V, POM-VPS or NFA-VPS medicines). Only ASM-GSL Status Veterinary Medicines may be sold on Fruugo. 

    19. Animal medicines and/or medicated feed which require prescription 

    20. Animal vaccinations and wormers

    21. Any veterinary medicines not intended for the market that they are being advertised or shipped into

    22. Any unregistered biocidal products

  1. Artefacts and Cultural Property 

    1. Artefacts including Native American crafts, cave formations, & grave-related items 

    2. Fine arts, including artist signed paintings. All reproductions must be licensed

  1. Automotive 

    1. Vehicles, both new and used

    2. Used automotive parts

    3. Automotive parts bearing a manufacturer's logo that are not produced by that manufacturer, including aftermarket or compatible for parts 

    4. Aftermarket parts that are misrepresenting their origin by to mimic OEM parts

    5. Airbags (Including but not limited to vehicle airbag inflators and airbag components)

    6. Automotive parts lacking the required safety markings 

    7. Vehicle seatbelts, seatbelt extenders and seatbelt components

    8. Seatbelt alarm cancellers or silencers 

    9. Fabric only car seats  

    10. Vehicle number plates 

    11. Solvent traps or fuel filters

    12. Window tint that exceeds the maximum legal limit in the countries you are shipping to

    13. E-Bikes and E-Scooters not authorised through Fruugo’s restricted products policy 

    14. Lithium-ion batteries without the required safety certification

  1. Cosmetics

    1. Products that are not sealed in the original manufacturer’s packaging

    2. Products that are restricted to professional use, that require a prescription or that should only be purchased from a registered pharmacist

    3. Products that contain any of the prohibited ingredients listed in the UK or EU Regulation on Cosmetic Products

    4. Products that contain colourants, preservatives and UV filters not explicitly listed as permitted in the UK Regulation on Cosmetic Products

    5. Products that employ deceptive descriptions, fraudulent imagery, or present misleading product claims to consumers 

    6. Products that have been tested on animals (As per the EU Cosmetics Regulation)

    7. Products with altered, removed, or obscured manufacturer tracking identifiers - including lot numbers, serial numbers or batch numbers

    8. Products labelled as “tester” products, including cosmetic or perfume testers and samples 

    9. Products labelled as “not intended for resale”

    10. Counterfeit or imitation cosmetics or perfumes 

    11. Opened or used cosmetics, skin products or hair care products

    12. Products that have passed their expiry or “use by” dates

  1. Currency 

    1. Prop currency which could be used as genuine currency 

    2. Coins Replicas or collectibles must clearly be marked with the words “REPLICA” or “REPRODUCTION”. 

    3. Currency maker machines

    4. Credit and debit cards

    5. Crypto-currency

    6. Prop, replica, or ‘novelty’ gold and silver bars

  1. Drugs and Drug Paraphernalia

    1. Any drug or drug-like substance used for medicinal or recreational use, including narcotics and controlled substances. 

    2. All drug paraphernalia 

    3. Cannabinoid products which exceed the legal limit of THC or CBD in the country that you are shipping the product to.

    4. Products which claim to provide a legal high 

    5. Materials used for the packaging of illicit drugs or substances

    6. Nitrous Oxide canisters

  1. Food and Drink 

    1. Alcohol or products containing alcohol including wine, beer and spirits

    2. Expired products or products with a short shelf life that will expire before they arrive with the customer

    3. Products labelled as “not for individual sale” or “not intended for resale”

  1. Hazardous Substances

    1. Dangerous acids, or products containing a dangerous acid, such as sulphuric acid, hydrochloric acid, hydrofluoric acid and nitric acid

    2. Any product containing cyanide 

    3. Any product containing asbestos

    4. Flammable items or substances

    5. Explosives, including fireworks, sparklers and grenades.

    6. Toxic substances such as poisons and Freon

    7. Biocides

    8. Radioactive material

    9. Hazardous gazes including corrosive, flammable, and toxic gases

    10. O-zone depleting substances 

    11. Bacteria cultures or other products containing E-Coli

  1. Guns, Firearms, Knives, Weapons & self Defence Tools

    1. Guns and firearms, including parts of or parts for a firearm

    2. Ammunition for a firearm

    3. Airsoft, BB Guns or paintball guns

    4. All knives and daggers which are classified as a weapon including, but not limited to, the following examples- 

      1. Balisong or Buttery Knives – A knife with a blade hidden inside the handle that splits in the middle to reveal the blade. 

      2. Knives disguised as or hidden inside everyday objects.

      3. Flick knives, switchblades and automatic knives which open when a button or something on the knife is pressed. 

      4. Gravity knives which open by gravity. 

      5. Stealth knives – A Knife not made from metal (and not made for use at home, for food or as a toy). 

      6. Zombie knives – A knife with a cutting, serrated edge, and images/words to suggest it is used for violence. 

      7. Spiral knives – A knife with one or more cutting edge that forms a helix and comes to a point.  

    5. All legal knives, including cutlery, which do not comply with the legal minimum age of purchase in the country you are selling to, and are not shipped using an age-verified courier. (Please see Annex 1 for more information)

    6. Knuckledusters and fighting tools

    7. Hand or foot claws 

    8. Crossbows, archery and hunting bows and slingshots

    9. Swords and sword-sticks

    10. Blowpipes or blow guns 

    11. Truncheons and batons

    27. Any product, device or part which could be used to create an explosive device

  1. Medicines and Medical Devices

    1. All human medicines which require a prescription or qualifications to be sold

    2. All medical devices which have not been registered with a medicines regulatory authority (e.g. MHRA)

    3. Medical devices which require an authorised prescription in the country that you are shipping the product to.

    4. Human vaccinations 

    5. Non-prescription medicines or any product which makes any claim for a medical or health benefit which is unsubstantiated or that there is no medical evidence to support the alleged benefit. Examples include personal enhancement pills or creams, weightless products or supplements, wart creams, mole removers, herbal remedies, and magnetic bracelets that offer false or misleading health benefits or medical solutions.

    6. Steroids or other body-building substances

    7. Contact lenses and glasses which require a prescription, including coloured contact lenses

    8. DNA Tests or Ancestry research

    9. Hearing aids

    10. Pill presses or encapsulating machines 

    11. Skin lighteners or whitening creams 

    12. Prescription only weight-loss products 

    13. Medical tests, including but not limited to Pregnancy, Covid, HIV and Drug Urine tests

  1. Offensive Material

    1. Any products or material that may cause offence to someone because of their religious beliefs, race, gender or sexual orientation 

    2. Radically offensive material

    3. Nazi memorabilia and products bearing or resembling a swastika 

    4. Any product or material that promotes terrorism, hate, crime, violence, abuse, exploitation, suicide, child pornography or gambling 

    5. Law enforcement or police-related items including government issued uniforms, badges, hats, or accessories, or replicas of these items 

    6. Any political memorabilia, including religiously sensitive material such as Muhammed pictures, that may cause offence or distress

    7. Items encouraging illegal activity, such as a book describing how to create methamphetamine

  1. Unsafe Products

    1. Any product that has been subject to a product safety alert or product recall by the manufacturer, government regulator, the SafetyGate Database, or any other Worldwide Safety Alerts

    2. Chinese Sky Lanterns or Chinese wishing lanterns 

    3. Laser pointers over 1mW

    4. Products that legally require a CE mark, and do not have one or have a unlawfully obtained  or unauthentic CE mark 

    5. Catalytic Converts & Test Pipes

    6. Magnetic toys, including but not limited to Magnetic beads, Magnetic Balls, and Magnetic Chess

    7. Products containing button batteries without secure child-resistant battery components 

    8. Products lacking the mandatory safety warnings traceability requirements, and instructions for safe use in the language of the country for sale 

    9. Gel balls or Orbeez

    10. Any food-imitating products that are not food, but could be mistaken for it by children

  1. Baby and Maternity Products

    1. Crib bumpers

    2. Crib tents

    3. Self-feeding pillows or devices

    4. Swaddle blankets

    5. Beaded teethers (including beaded teething jewellery)

    6. Sleep positioners and sleep pillows 

    7. Novelty/hooded sleeping bags

    8. Non-compliant car seats 

    9. Baby protective headgear or backpacks

  1. Theft Devices

    1. Any tool, software or device engineered to to gain unauthorised access to devices, places, vehicles etc

    2. Tools and kits for for lock picking

    3. Discreet handcuff keys

    4. Digital decoders

    5. Instruments for duplication of keys

    6. Skimming devices

    7. Hacking devices

    8. Master/skeleton keys

    9. Theft aids

  1. Radios and Electronics

    1. Baofeng Radios

    2. CB Radios (Switzerland Only)

    3. Electronic surveillance equipment, including wiretapping devices and telephone bugging devices 

    4. TV De-scramblers

    5. Radar Scanners

    6. Traffic signal control devices 

    7. Signal jammers, blockers and detectors (affecting cellular, GPS or Wi-Fi signals

    8. Spy camera or microphones hidden as an everyday object that has the ability to transmit audio or video without being detected

    9. Spyware, malware or hacking device

    10. Unlicensed software, including software that requires a license which has been used or duplicated 

    11. Software unlocking keys

    12. Bank card readers (or skimmers) 

    13. Unlicensed AI systems

  1. Tattoo Products 

    1. Tattoo Inks 

    2. Anaesthetic or numbing creams 

    3. Tattoo or laser removal devices

  1. Tobacco and E-Cigarettes

    1. Cigarettes

    2. E-cigarettes

    3. Cigars

    4. Pipe tobacco 

    5. Lighters

  1. Intellectual Property Infringements 

    1. Any counterfeit or imitation product, including but not limited to the products referred to this in this policy, and any product in breach of Fruugo’s Anti-Counterfeiting Policy

    2. Any product that infringes on the intellectual property rights of others, as per our Intellectual Property Policy. 

    3. Parallel Imports - Any products placed on the market outside of the European Economic Area and imported into the EEA without the rights owner’s consent

  1.  Other  

    1. Used or second-hand products, including refurbished or repaired goods 

    2. Tickets, including event tickets, lottery tickets, train tickets, bus tickets, or concert tickets

    3. Store value loads, including gift or pre-paid cards, gift vouchers, and manufacturers’ coupons 

    4. Stock and other securities

    5. Real estate 

    6. Mystery boxes 

    7. Custom-made and personalised products 

    8. Certification and identification, including passports, I.D. cards, birth certifications and death certificates

    9. Digital download codes for software, programmes or games

    10. Products described as additional shipping fees for a customer to purchase after their order has been completed

    11. Stolen property 

    12. Any product which refers to another website, a marketplace, or any payment provider

    13. Any product that makes unsubstantiated “eco-friendly” claims without meeting the required certification standards

    14. Any products which are not covered by a valid EPR registration number 

    15. Any products containing single-use plastics, including but not limited to plates, cutlery, trays, bowls or containers 

    16. Any products made with forced labour at any stage of the supply-chain
